DH Hardscapes is a hard landscaping business run by Darren, working across York and the surrounding villages. Driveways, paving, fencing, turfing and general garden maintenance, all handled by the same small team from the first site visit to the last barrow of muck off the drive.
Most of the work comes from neighbours seeing a finished drive and asking who did it. That only happens if the job underneath is right, so the parts you never see, the dig out, the sub-base, the edge restraints and the falls, get the same attention as the surface you do.
What every job includes
- A free site visit. Darren comes out, measures up and talks through what will actually work for your ground and your budget.
- A written, itemised quote. Materials, labour, muck away and VAT position all set out before anyone starts.
- A proper dig out and sub-base. Excavated to depth, MOT type 1 compacted in layers, not skimmed over the old surface.
- Drainage thought about first. Falls set away from the house, channel drains and soakaways where the job needs them.
- Waste taken away. Spoil, old slabs and packaging go with us. No skip left sat outside for a fortnight.
- A tidy finish. Jointing brushed in, edges cut clean, and the drive swept before we leave.

Six things, done properly
Everything below is laid by the same team. If your job crosses over two or three of them, that is normal, and it is quoted as one project rather than three separate visits.
Block Paving Driveways
Full dig out, compacted sub-base, edge restraints and block paving laid in herringbone or stretcher bond. Drainage channels and dropped kerb work included where you need them.

Porcelain, Indian sandstone and natural stone, laid on a full mortar bed with the falls set correctly. Steps, raised beds and inset lighting built in as part of the same job.
See patiosFencing & Gates
Closeboard, feather edge, decorative and trellis-topped panels, set on concrete posts and gravel boards so the timber never sits in wet ground. Gates hung to match.
See fencingTurfing & New Lawns
Old lawn stripped, ground rotavated, levelled and raked to a fine tilth, then fresh cultivated turf laid tight and rolled. Shaped edges cut in against beds and paths.

Composite and timber decks on a treated, properly spaced frame with ventilation underneath. Fascias, steps and balustrade finished so no fixings are left on show.

Whole garden redesigns bringing paving, lawn, beds and fencing together, plus regular maintenance visits to keep hedges, borders and grass under control afterwards.
